Fruit preserves in sugar syrup have been a long standing tradition in Greece. High quality fresh fruits are gently boiled and then preserved in syrup retaining the colour, aroma and taste of the fruit. Commonly known as spoon sweets due to the traditional way of serving it as a well filled teaspoon in a small dish with cold water nowadays are used as healthy spread, to top fresh fruit, in baked goods like cakes, as toppings over ice cream, yoghurt and cheeses.
